Things I've Done

A mock concept of a climbing chalk. Using the skater style of 90s brands such as Vans, Santa Cruz and other similar illustration heavy apparel companies.

I wanted to display the film photos we took from an adventurous weekend away in a scrapbook style, continuous, carousel. I used stickers and imagery to create a handmade feel.

Alya came to me needing a landing page for her clients to contact her from. She meets most of her clients through networking events and through word of mouth. Her website needed to be clean and simple, but demonstrate her extensive experience and skillset. We opted for androgynous illustrations of people to purposefully highlight the inclusivity of Alya's work. The illustrations carry throughout the website, drawing the user down the site, to the contact form.

I was tasked with designing a representative icons hat could be used on the clapperboards whilst filming series 2 of the BBC Comedy series Juice. I was given the brief of a cartoon Juice box with dripping words. The design had to be bold and not over complicated as it would be centred in the clapperboard. It also needed to be vectorised in order to be used in other formats elsewhere.

I was tasked with designing and developing a website, built from the branding work I did with Lily. It needed to fulfil her need to be easy to update, but still demonstrate her creative side, without limiting how much she can talk about her work.

We used a combination of a Content Management System and bespoke coding to display unique information on dynamic pages, eliminating the need to create new pages for each project, whilst ensuring the content revealed is necessary and intuitively structured.

With this incorporation, Lily is able to update her portfolio from her phone. She can add in all the standard information like event name, date, and the company she has worked for, along with being able to upload images straight from her camera roll. As a freelancer, I totally understand the need for this kind of design.

Incorporating animation and dynamics in the website brings Lily’s playful side into the website.

MERCHANDISE DESIGN

PERSONAL BRANDING

I love to capture and create content around my various adventure sport hobbies. These images were taken in my local outdoor climbing spot. I directed the model to perform and demonstrate moves that had dramatised the climbing experience. I then used lightroom to edit the images to enhance the cinematic feel.

It was important to capture the movement and determination of the climbers.

I not only adjusted light balances and colour corrections, I also used the 'remove' and 'stamp' tools to create clean and uninterrupted backgrounds.

CLIMBING PHOTOGRAPHY

I created a blue rock climbing character, intentionally androgynous, to use for a climbing companies merchandise line.

I illustrated the character and text directly in Adobe Fresco and used Photoshop to make the mockups come to life.

This project stretched my illustration skills. I have been working on designs with fewer references to challenge my drawing eye and practice drawing scale and colour theory. This design challenged that practice.

ILLUSTRATION & MERCH DESIGN

VIDEO EDITING & ANIMATION

As a passion project in my first week of living in Norway, I attended the Lillestrom Airshow. I edited photos that were taken of the aircraft and then created several posters/printable merchandise using my edits.

As part of my time at Arthur Ellis, I was involved in the creation of the Arthur Ellis Summer Festival concept and planning.

Photography

For the pilot event, I took photos of attendees enjoying the activities. The aim was to make the photos generic and non venue/date specific so they could be used in following marketing material.

I also used the opportunity to capture staff headshots.

Editing

I then edited the photos to make them cohesive and warm to match the branding of the event.

This included editing the staff headshots to be used across the company. As the photos would be used so that clients could get to know their Mentors before meeting them, it was important to make them feel informal, warm and welcoming. It was great to use the natural sunlight and the greenery in the background to give the headshots this feel.

EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY

ANIMAL PHOTOGRAPHY

During the lockdown of 2020, I was tasked with creating, shooting and editing my own music video in the absence of a safe way to shoot with a crew. I intentionally went with a lofi result, shooting everything on an iphone, in natural sunlight. It was an enjoyable and creative experience to use the props and locations I had available to me.

The video was premiered in CLASH Magazine as part of my second EP release: 'Oh What a God Awful Stupid Idea'. The release was on Island Records, a record company known to have signed artists such as Elton John and Chappell Roan.

VIDEO PRODUCTION

Max is a junior designer looking to showcase his work on a dedicated website. For this website we created a bespoke font using Max’s handwriting to make the site feel like an extension of his notebook/sketchbooks. We also utilised the animations and moving gallery features to simulate storyboards.

Process:
Aims and purpose
When designing a website, I like to start by creating a comprehensive list of goals that the website should achieve. What practical use it will be for users and how to measure these.

Structure and Wireframes
I then go on to create draft structures and wireframes. This helps me to collect a list of copy and media that I will need to collate in order to fill the website.

Design and Build
I work to flesh out the design with global sections, colours, typography and styling. Then add copy and media.

Apps and Functionality
Finally, I add in any apps and functionality that can enhance a users experience.

Testing
To finish the project, I test the design and functionality in a range of uses and with various devices.

Write and produce a storyboard/storyline for Music Video.

CREATIVE VIDEO PRODUCTION

Adam is a seasoned event professional with extensive experience in a range of positions across the event industry. He needed a website hat captured his breadth of experience and worked as a CV for potential employers. The site benefited from an organised blog system that allowed Adam to describe his experience in depth.

One of my first music videos produced. This was shot and edited in one week.

The shooting of this video was a learning curve for me, as I shot the footage in too low a resolution for the videos to take up a regular viewing screen. Therefore, I had to come up with a solution that didn't involve stretching the footage, rendering it grainy and unviewable. I therefore opted for a black and white film style edit that utilised the low res and added to the charm of the video.
