The Solution

The Task
Polly had a squarespace website sat, unpublished, for months.
She was fed up of trying to learn how to make everything work AND look good. Coming from a design background, she was hesitant to hand over control, but gave me the keys and I got to work.
The Design
Designing for Polly felt very natural. I understood her design language immediately. She wanted something that felt inherently traditional, that honoured the history of tattooing, but that also felt specifically feminine, and weird. Just like her tattoos! They often include botanical and illusionary or uncanny visuals. Her branding needed to feel just that!
Polly already had a typeface that she used for her nomiture, and various options for her logo that she had designed. I utilised these across the website. I opted for a bright pink/orange that stemmed from her botanical and feminine styles, but gave it that punchy 90s vibe.
I paired her tattoo traditional typeface with an easy reading Heading font, and a monospace type font for the body.
The Build
For the build, I focused on keeping everything very simple. Polly didn't need a 20 page website with a course and a blog etc... She needed a reliable place that people could contact her through, and could receive updates from. Finally, she needed somewhere to showcase her favourite photos of her tattoos.
The result, a one page website, no menu to distract you. Just easy scrolling, size adaptability and two forms (one for contacting Polly, another for signing up to her mailing list).
Polly was really happy with the result.
The Impact
In the first week of launch, Polly had 157 Site Sessions, 137 of which were unique visitors, 16 new email subscribers and 21 contact form submissions.
But, best of all, this was Polly's response to our first draft:
Josie!!! That website has blown my mind and is EXACTLY what I wanted. Perfect, easy to navigate, love the style and images and your ideas of it. It's superb, I have zero questions.
